About Mai Thomas

Mai is a Welsh artist who lives in the Ceiriog Valley near the Welsh borders. She studied painting at the Royal College of Art, London and is currently completing PhD studies at Glyndwr University, Wrexham with a focus on ‘Object Based Learning, a study of audience engagement through the creation of artworks’. Her portfolio demonstrates diversity and a broad repertoire of experience working with all ages in a variety of settings for example indoors in schools, libraries, art galleries, museums and outdoors on beaches, in parks and woodlands. Community engagement and inclusion are at the core of her practice. She creates artworks out of both natural and manmade materials, combining craft and fine art to make sculptural objects and fully immersive environments.

"I am looking forward to working with the children and staff at Trehafren and Ladywell Children’s Centres and developing a few recipes for creative fun and exploration in the inner hidden spaces and outer workings of the kitchen. We will be asking questions such as What if? and Why does? and How to? and seeing where the children’s answers lead us."
