Playing The Kitchen | Launch Event

07 Oct 2017 @ 6:00 pm  -  07 Oct 2017 @ 8:00 pm

To celebrate the launch of The Kitchen we have invited musical duo, Tinc y Tannau and performance artist and writer James Baker to ‘play’ in The Kitchen.

James Baker

James is a performer and writer based in Mid-Wales. His work is characterised by its playful metafictionality, improvisational style, DIY aesthetic, and (often uncomfortable) honesty. His solo theatre show "You Have To Be Mad To Work Here And It Doesn't Even Help" investigates the cultural links between creativity and mental health problems. His first full-length play, titled "An As Yet Untitled Play About Two People In An Underground Bunker" is currently in development. It's about depression, shame, and failure, but it's a lot funnier than it sounds.

Tinc y Tannau

Two Bass Viola da Gamba and Two Voices

A duet with a difference! A luscious mix of beauty and mischief. Sianed Jones and Ailsa Mair Hughes sing and play Seven string Bass Viola da Gamba at the same time! Together they conjure up rich four-part harmonies and rhythms that are intoxicating on these ancient resonant instruments, that can be bowed or strummed like a guitar. The ancient influencing the now whilst careering joyfully into the future.

Tinc y Tannau have been invited to play and improvise in exhibition spaces ( The Radical Craft Exhibition, Pumed Gainc / A Fifth Branch in Aberystwyth Arts Centre ) using the visual art and the sculpture as inspiration and as sound scores. Expect some surprising sounds as Sianed and Ailsa are let loose in and on The Kitchen.
