From 22 October 2016 to the 27 February 2017 Oriel Davies' Gallery 2 was transformed into The Drawing Room - Newtown's living room in an art gallery!
Imagined as a creative social space, where art, performance, craft and film could be made, shared and inspired. The Drawing Room was a place for ideas, discussion, learning, creativity and play. A space for hanging out and entertaining friends
We invited residents, schools, voluntary groups, established and emerging artists to get involved. Working in collaboration with 13 resident artists, 89 emerging practitioners and more than 14 schools and community groups, as well as visitors to the space, The Drawing Room evolved over the four months it was open. Each object, item of furniture, knick-knack, decoration and instrument, either made, customized, donated or found.
The Drawing Room programme included, storytelling sessions, pop-up choir events, tin sculpture workshops, artist discussions, book groups, a Christmas quiz, a leaving do, a dance residency and symposium, poetry events, sound book performance, book launch, exhibitions, film screenings, demonstrations and mentoring sessions…
